She was a master piece! She was my
favorite.
The lace fabric seemed to accentuate
her facial features.
I marveled at her gaze.
The solemn sparkle in her eyes drew
me closer.
Beneath the glint were many
secrets.
Her silence was the loudest of all
the beautiful women in the room.
Their beauty was framed upon
lace-canvas.
There were several works of art in
the room but four stood out:
Beautiful, Beautiful Gaze, Beautiful Whisper
and Beautiful Silence.
These works were created by Ade Odunfa the owner of the entire Art
collection.
The collection was displayed at
Terrakulture recently in an exhibition titled
faces and phases. The collection featured interesting works
from other Nigerian artists - Olumide Onadipe, Chinedu Uzoma, Segun Akintoye,
Donald Ekpo and Adekusibe Odunfa.
These Nigerian artists
demonstrated great creativity using materials ranging from lace fabric, fibre
glass and charcoal on paper.
Ade Odunfa clads
his beautiful ladies on dry lace which served as his canvas while Donald Ekpo’s sculptures titled Conversation makes use of fibre glass to
bring the reality of children hawkers to life.
Chinedu Uzoma captured the virtous woman and family ties in a simple but powerful black and white image achieved
using only charcoal on canvas. Olumide Onadipe used oil on canvas to
showcase Mama’s Love and Beautiful rest using the painting of
leaves to form fresh images and Segun
Akintoye also used oil on canvas to paint various female faces and other
images..
When asked what inspired his use of lace fabric as canvas, Ade
Odunfa says he has always liked to experiment using different surfaces. “I like
texture and I like to experiment. I
stumbled on the lace and it came out nice.
I just looked at it one day and said, let me try painting on this. It’s like painting on canvas but its
texturized canvas”.
